In School, in association with HeyMath! and Raffles Institution, Singapore, for
the first time in India, is planning an online maths contest, the RI Maths
Challenge 2013, for middle school students from Andhra Pradesh, Kerala,
Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The objective of this contest is to increase interest in
mathematics and develop problem-solving abilities. To popularise the contest,
registration will be free of cost. The contest is open to students whose
schools subscribe to The Hindu In School.
The contest will test the students on their problem-solving,
decision-making, analytical and critical thinking skills. Students from Classes
7, 8 and 9 are eligible to participate. The major topics that will be covered
are Geometry, Calculation, Counting, Arithmetic and Investigative Problems.
There will be an online model test to help students familiarise
with the type of questions asked, testing environment and contest format.
This will be available for a week.
The qualifying round would be an online test of 60 minutes’
duration. The top 50 students who qualify will have to take a 60-minute written
test in Chennai. The winners would get amazing prizes like Apple iPad, Apple
iPad Mini, Android Tablets and many more.
