8,000 runners for Coimbatore Marathon


Coimbatore Marathon 2013, to be conducted here on October 6 to raise funds to combat cancer, has attracted more than 8,000 participants.

Every single participant would be photographed and all those completing the marathon would be given personalised certificates containing their photograph.

Adequate water stations, medical points and route marshals would be in place. All runners would be tracked for their progress. members of the Armed Forces are also taking part.

A total of 4,876 had registered for the 5 km run, another 2,186 for the 10 km run and the remaining 1,111 for the half-marathon, which would stretch for 21.1 km. The total prize money on offer was Rs. 2 lakh. Registrations have been closed. Outreach programmes were held at educational institutions, industries, companies, professional and amateur athletic clubs besides online and social networking sites. Non-governmental organisations have also been roped in.
