A free camp to screen for hearing disabilities among children from below poverty line families will be conducted every month on the third Sunday in a city hospital under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Insurance Scheme. Patients under six years of age and hard of hearing since birth, could use this opportunity to avail cochlear implant surgery free of cost.
A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing.
According to a press note, Vikram ENT Hospital and Research Institute is the only ENT hospital recognised for cochlear implants under the health insurance scheme in Coimbatore region. The camp for the month of March will be held on Sunday (March 17) at Vikram ENT Hospital & Research Institute, 69, West Venkatasamy Road, RS Puram.
