the city to create awareness on cancer. The Coimbatore Marathon 2013 is being
organised by the Coimbatore Cancer Foundation (CCF), Coimbatore Runners and

Coimbatore Marathon 2013 was planned for October to coincide
with the global breast cancer awareness month observance. The event was
primarily to support all cancer survivors through CCF.
Earlier, Air Commodore (retd) K. Rajagopal unveiled the
marathon’s logo.
The event would be a half marathon (21.2 km) from Nehru Stadium
and back. The aim was to promote awareness about cancer and the importance of
fitness and well-being through running. The event would include a 21.2 km run,
five km run/walk, 10 km run/walk, 1 km cancer survivors’ walk, and a 1 km CEOs’
walk. The total prize money of more than Rs. 2 lakh was on the offer in

Participants would be given their bibs (chest numbers) at the
expo. They could also dedicate their run to someone in particular with
personalised messages on T- shirts. He added that this was planned to be an
annual event and he urged Coimbatoreans to patronise the marathon as it brought
about a sense of unity. The registration fee for the 5 km run was Rs. 250 and
Rs. 500 for the 10 km and the 21.2 km. Finisher medals and certificates (to be
