MetroPlus Playwright Award 2014 

The Hindu MetroPlus Playwright Award 2014 is here. The award, instituted in 2008, carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh for the best new English theatre script.

The entry must be a full-length play on any subject of your choice. Full-length in this context means a play that in performance time will last 50 minutes or longer. The play must be an original, unpublished and unperformed work in English. It must not have been staged in any public space before the announcement of the award.

The award is open to writers above 18 years of age who are Indian citizens or have been residents of India for the last five years.

Submissions made for previous editions of the MetroPlus Playwright award will not be considered. Also, submissions should not have been submitted for any other award or commissioned as part of a writer’s workshop.

Only one submission will be entertained from a person. The submission must not contain any quotations or copyrighted material without proper permissions having been obtained.

Translated works are not eligible for this award. However, adaptations of novels and texts are eligible.

Submissions must be printed in double space on single sides of A4 sheets and sent to: The MetroPlus, (Playwright Award 2013), The Hindu, Kasturi Buildings, 859/860, Anna Salai, Chennai 600002. They must also be emailed to: metroplaywright@gmail.com

Your play must reach us (in print and via email) on or before January 31, 2014. A short curriculum vitae of the playwright must be attached to the play, with the writer’s name, telephone/mobile number, email address and postal address.

The entry must contain a declaration stating that the play is original, has not been either published or performed, and has not been submitted for another award or commissioned for a writer’s workshop. Manuscripts will not be returned.

The decision of the judges is final. Results will be announced on May 1, 2014 or earlier.

Employees of Kasturi & Sons Ltd and their close relatives are not eligible to enter the contest.
